Our Little Man

Owen, has been such a BOY lately!  He is a handful, but I love every minute of it.  However, there have been days lately where I want to pull my hair out.  He is way too independent...just like his Aunt Melanie was! :)  He always says, "I do it myself!"
He has mastered the art of potty training and hasn't had an accident in over 2 weeks.  He wears a pullup at nap and bedtime, but those have been dry for over a month.  I guess I still use it as a "just in case."
He still LOVES tractors and trains!  He is never two inches from me or his sister.  He mimics everything that Harper does.  And he loves to snuggle with me!  I still get to rock him to sleep sometimes...one happy mom!
This is his last semester at his daycare before he embarks on the world of preschool next year.  I can't believe how grown up he is!  Such a fun, ornery boy!

100th Day of School!

Last week, Harper celebrated the 100th day of First Grade!
Wow...time flies (I think that would be a great name for this blog...because I didn't post at all in January...shame on me!)
Just a few things about Harper's school and class to celebrate this milestone.
-Harper is reading!  They just started AR reading tests this semester and they have some great prizes if they pass the tests.
-Harper has a 10-word spelling test each week.  She loves spelling!
-Her class has started doing timed addition and subtraction tests.  The time thing stumps her, but slow and steady wins the race!
-She loves to eat in the cafteria, but lately has taken a liking to packing her own lunch.  She usually includes a peanut butter and honey sandwich, BabyBel cheese, craisins, fruit (blueberries or strawberries) and a small piece of candy.
-She checks out two books from the library every day.  She loves to check out the "science" books about snow or animals, etc.
-Richard does homework with Harper each day after school.  They work on spelling, math and any worksheets that are sent home for homework.  I read with her each night.  She usually reads to me first and then I read to her.  We just finished the Ramona Quimby collection and are working on Junie B. Jones and Judy Moody.
-Cool tidbit...Harper's 1st grade classroom is the same classroom I was in for 1st grade!  Love that!
Yea, for 100 days of School!

Thunder Up!

Harper and Richard got the chance to go to an OKC Thunder game last month and they were both pumped!  Harper loves her some Thunder basketball.  I think she loves the atmosphere the most!
They headed downtown, amisdt all the construction, and got to the game well before it started.  They walked around, got some snacks and of course...Harper got her face painted.  Glitter and all!

Girl's Weekend in Wichita

A few weekends ago, Harper and I met up with our best friends (cousins, as Harper calls them), Sara and Cambreee for a little Girl's Weekend Retreat.

We started Friday afternoon off by going to the Disney Live: Three Fairy Tales Show.  It was so much fun!  The girls had a blast and I had a ton of fun singing along.  After the show we headed to the hotel.  Which by the way was super nice, a historic hotel that had been remodeled in downtown Wichita.  We ate at the Kickback "reception" which was way more than appetizers and then headed to the pool!  The girls were little fish...Sara and I enjoyed the hot tub.  Relaxing time!
Saturday morning, both girls were up and at 'em before 6:30.  We got ready and headed down to eat the super yummy breakfast and then headed off to do what girls love best...SHOPPING!  The girls did a really good job.  We hit Target, Hobby Lobby and a really cute antique store.  Then we had a fantastic lunch at my favorite place...Spangles!

When we got back to the hotel that afternoon, we started on our projects.  We decided to let the girls make their valentines for their classes.  They actually had a long enought attention span to finish them all, but were very anxious to get back to the pool.  We swam a little bit before we headed back down to the "kickback."  Then guess what we did afterwards...yep...SWAM some more.  Little fish...I'm tellin' ya!

That night, we just hung out.  The girls watched some Disney Channel and Sara and I had some great, long, much-needed girl chat time!
We headed home on Sunday morning and we were sad our girl's weekend was over.  We had an absolute blast!!!  Can't wait to do it again!
